Spring is such a glorious and beautiful time of year! All the freshness and excitement of new life and the possibilities that come with it. It is also a fabulous opportunity to take advantage of hands-on opportunities to talk with your kids about God’s creation.

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. 2 Corinthians 5:17 ESV

Here are 5 simple ways you can explore God’s creation and the miracle of new and regenerated life this spring with your kids.

Butterflies – Go on a hunt for some butterflies! Take a simple field guide with you to look for them. Or raise your own butterflies this spring for a hands-on object lesson on our new life in Christ! Use additional resources such as this New Creation printable pack.

Nature Walk – Venture out to a park with good trails and explore nature as you walk. Take a plastic bag to collect small items as you go to examine more closely later or use in craft projects. Take pictures of everything from the smallest bug to the tallest tree, talking about all the sights, sounds, and smells all around and how God created each thing.

Grow a Garden – Now’s the time to plan a garden! Make it a simple garden kids can help with, planning it together and chipping in with daily care and maintenance. Talk about where the Bible mentions gardens and growing things. The garden of Eden, the parable of the sower, the vine and the branches… there are many passages you could incorporate as you work the soil together. Dandelions – Even if you don’t have space for a garden, chances are you can find some dandelions this spring! Even the most seemingly insignificant flower is a part of God’s grand creation. Our family enjoys special dandelion activities each year, including studying them, crafting with them, and even making them into cookies! It’s a fun and unique way of exploring God’s creation this spring.

Chicks – Spring is the perfect time for baby chicks! Go to a farm store and see some baby chicks, ducks, turkeys, and more! If possible, get your child a chance to hold them. If you’re really ambitious, bring some home to raise! Your kids can learn good lessons from chicks. Talk about how God created the chicks and how He created them. Moreover, He loves them and protects them! We can feel safe knowing the God of creation cares for us and watches over us, like a hen brooding over her chicks.
