What would you say is a vintage value that kids struggle with today and how can we help them with it?

Compassion is hard for kids today because we don’t sit in things.

It’s hard to show kids how to bear with people for the long haul.

It’s hard for kids today to take ownership of their actions because we’ve created a victim mentality.

It’s easy for parents and kids to connect through a shared conflict but it’s not good for the long haul.

When kids are dealing with conflict, ask them:

What could YOU do to change the situation?

What does LEADERSHIP look like in this situation?

How do we move forward in this in a HEALTHY way?

. . . . . . . . . .

Anything that diminishes or demeans someone is not leadership.

We are teaching kids about self-esteem, which is all about them, instead of teaching self-respect, which also teaches them to respect others. Melanie Shankle

If you don’t respect yourself you won’t respect others well.

What piece of advice would you like to give parents who are listening?

Say yes as much as you can so the no’s don’t seem like such a big deal.

There is a big difference between parenting and controlling. Controlling seems easier sometimes but that’s not parenting. Sophie Hudson

Move forward in grace. Sometimes consequences are grace.

If you are not operating from a place of love, it’s the wrong time to respond.

Hold on. Parenting is a marathon, not a sprint. Play the long game. Pray a lot. Melanie Shankle

Play the long game in parenting. You are trying to raise a fully-functioning adult, not give immediate gratification to a kid. Melanie Shankle

Don’t be afraid of what’s ahead.
